Weight Watchers: Week Five

My mom and I in November before Weight Watchers
Starting Weight: 207lb!!
Starting Dress Size: 18
For five weeks now I have been on weight watchers.  I have only told a couple of people; my parents, siblings, and husband.  With out knowing if this was going to help me or not, I didn't want a lot of people asking me about it.  Being self conscious about my weight I wasn't super keen with sharing this personal experience.  However, with being on this program five weeks, the results have amazed me and I want to share my journey and success with whomever is thinking of doing the same. My first goal was to loose 10 lbs by mid January for our Hawaii trip. I am making this post separate from week six.  This is because I wanted a separate post for our Hawaii trip which starts on Thursday!!! I don't know if I'm more excited to see Dave or be in Hawaii.

I weighed in today: Start of Week Six.  I also tracked my measurements which I took at the beginning of weight watchers.  I am so impressed on how well I did this week.  I know this is not a typically weight loss week.  I didn't expect to loose this much in a week.  I can typically stay with in my allotted 30 points in a day, aside from an occasional indulgence here and there. I think from not using any flex points, it really made a difference.  I haven't done anything crazy different other than not cheating, and walking a little more.  Also, I started drinking a cup of milk every morning. It wasn't a huge decision, I just needed to g

et rid of a gallon before Thursday. I guess the Got Milk? campaign wasn't kidding. There were a lot of successes during week five!! My current results are at the end of this post.

Week 5:
With only one week left for my first goal of 10 lbs.  I wanted to do my very best at staying on top of my eating and exercise.  I wanted to use as little flex points as possible.  This meant no indulgences and exercise. Can I just say, I don't think I have been hungry during this whole experience.  I am constantly eating fruit or veggies.  With only me here, I don't want them to go bad, and I just love them so much!!!  I love tea as well, so when I'm snacky I have a cup or a mint.

First, I discovered Jamba Juice.  Well David told me about it, he's been going there a lot on his trip.  OMG!!! They are so good, and usually run from 5-7 points. So filling, so yummy!!!  I had two last week for breakfast and there was no snacking at all before lunch. For activity points this week I did quite a bit of walking in the park.  The weather has been really nice, so I enjoyed drinking my Jamba Juice and taking a walk at the same time.  Shopping and cleaning are good ways to burn extra calories as well.  I went on a major cleaning spree.  I hate coming home to a messy house after a vacation. I also went out for a long shopping trip with some friends, and was able to rack up 12 activity points in one afternoon.

Lunches often included a granola bar, a piece of fruit, and a salad.  I did have a small bowl of mac & cheese which they served at work.  I was very proud of only getting a small.  I hadn't eaten so many carbs in a while, so it filled me so much.  I was almost sick from how full I was.

I have been so good for dinners during this week. I made a small pasta dish with meat sauce with a side salad.  I also had a couple mini cheeseburgers with a side of cucumber and tomatoes. I even went out to eat a few times.  However, I made sure to order from the skinnier menus.   I was able to indulge, but I was able to enjoy myself when I went out with a couple friends.  Eating out didn't feel like a cheat, I was able to stay with in my points and have plenty to eat.
Biggest Tip: Make Small Changes and they Add Up to Big Changes!! I think this is my biggest take-a-way so far from Weight Watchers is how to limit yourself, or how to make healthier choices.
Here are a couple of examples:

  • Little things like switching to thin crust pizza or adding veggies
  • If eating fast food switch out fries for fruit or a salad
  • Choose sweet potatoes instead of white potatoes (Even try sweet potato chips-so good!)
  • Parking your car a little further away from the grocery store
These aren't major changes and there are so many little things to incorporate healthy habits into your life. Add all these little changes and you could avoid a lot of fats and calorie intake.
