My First Two Weeks on Weight Watchers

Starting Weight: 207lb!!
Starting Dress Size: 18
For five weeks now I have been on weight watchers.  I have only told a couple of people; my parents, siblings, and husband.  With out knowing if this was going to help me or not, I didn't want a lot of people asking me about it.  Being self conscious about my weight I w
asn't super keen with sharing this personal experience.  However, with being on this program five weeks, the results have amazed me and I want to share my journey and success with whomever is thinking of doing the same. My first goal was to loose 10 lbs by mid January for our Hawaii trip.

A little about weight watchers
Weight watchers is based on a point system.  Points are calculated on fat, carbs, protein, and fiber with in your food.  I got 30 points per day, as well as 49 flex points I could use through out the week.  I do not do meetings.  I only do weight watchers online.  This gives me access to my weight watchers page which tracks my points, calculates my points, and tracks my progress.  I also get access to all of the information on the weight watchers website, such as challenges, workout plans, community forums, and the millions of lifestyle tips.  The app on my phone is my new best friend. It is so easy to track your points and to take charge of your life.

Weeks 1-2:
One thing I knew I had to change was my eating habits.  With David away I often wouldn't eat much during the morning, and often my first meal would be around 3-4pm.   Which I know is not healthy.  This meant a lot of eating at night, and not the best kind of food either.

I made it a habit to eat breakfast every morning.  Often it was yogurt with granola. I often had a snack of an apple, or granola bar.  Lunch time I would usually change it up.  I had some English muffin pizzas, soup, or a healthy choice meal. With David gone I was okay eating the same thing every night; a nice big salad, topped with a little cheese, hard boiled eggs, and ranch dressing.

I'm a huge fan of fresh vegetables.  So with most fruits and vegetables being zero points, I snacked a lot.  Apples, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes.  With a little ranch dressing or maybe a sliver of cheddar cheese, I felt like I was eating all the time while using minimal points.  This way my snacking wasn't taking away from my points, and instead was using my points towards meals or an occasional indulgence. With David gone, I also got in the habit of going for walks and being more active.  Tracking activity points makes me feel like I accomplished something that day.

Tracking the points seemed like a hard idea to me when I was contemplating the program.  Having to constantly input what you are eating seemed like a lot of work, and time consuming.  However, it is so easy!!! With the app on my phone I can track what I'm eating in 30 seconds or less.  It is so easy to either; search for the item your eating, scanning the item your eating, or manually entering the nutritional info.  The app also alerts you after meal time to track your points.  This was very helpful so I was always on top of it.  Getting used to tracking my points was way easier than I was anticipating.

My biggest Obstacle: Going to Disneyland

My friend offered for me to join her and her friend for a trip to Disneyland.  Going to Disneyland in the past was always a time to enjoy all the lovely food.  With walking so much, I always thought, "I'm probably burning all of these calories anyway".

I was surprised how well I did. So I started my day with my yogurt and granola.  For lunch I had a child's meal (which are real adult portions), which included a mini cheeseburger, some apples, carrots, and iced tea.  It was plenty of food, and I felt like I accomplished something. Not to mention I saved around $10 getting the smaller meal.  I still indulged a little, but made smarter choices when I did.  At Starbucks, I still got a frap.  However, instead of a large, whole milk, with whipped cream,  I got a small, fat free, with no whip green tea frap.  It was still delicious, I felt like I was indulging, but only used five points.  I thought I was really indulging when I got my favorite cotton candy.  But I was able to stop myself after a few handfuls, instead of eating the whole bag. With all of the walking I did, I was so proud of myself.

Total Weight Loss: 3lbs
Top Tip: If you have a craving, or if you drink your coffee with a lot cream and sugar try to drink tea.  I'm a huge fan of tea, so this was easy for me to adjust to.  Instead of the three points I would use for fixing my coffee, I use zero points for a cup of hot tea with 1 equal.  It satisfies any craving, fills, me up, and tea has a lot of health benefits.
